Texas Hero

Texas HeroIt occurred to me many years ago that the graphic arts community might find useful a digital typeface that mimicked the classic look of nineteenth-century handwriting. Conveniently, my mother was then volunteering at the Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin, my hometown. She made copies of the letters of a few famous Texans—Houston, Austin, Travis, Lamar, Rusk. Thomas J. Rusk’s penmanship caught my eye as the most accessible of the bunch. I hadn’t realized at the time what a challenge it’d be to render a script face, but the result has, in fact, filled a niche. Full release has complete character set. US$39.

KIND WORDS:

“I'm a collector of 19th century antiques and photographs, and like to make labels and scrapbooks using fonts that fit the period of my items. I've even tried to learn the penmanship myself using dip pens... your fonts will make it so much easier!”
—P.M., Palatine IL

“Our 3rd and 4th graders are thrilled that their historical writing is going to look so authentic!
—S.E., Charlottesville VA

“The fonts you offer are quite unique and beautifully done.... Your site and ecommerce process was also a pleasure to view and to use.”
—R.M., Newbury NH

“I've never seen anyone digitize old quill-pen handwriting [like Schooner Script], warts and all. You've done a fine job.”
—R.W., Costa Mesa CA

“Your fonts are gorgeous, and in particular, your handwriting fonts are the best I've ever seen.”
—J.H., Witny, Oxfordshire, England

“I must say [Texas Hero] is one of the most beautiful fonts I’ve ever seen.”
—J.C., Mount Holly NC

“The Lamar Pen font is divine. We are using it on a novel set in the eighteenth century, and the author is ecstatic.”
—J.H., London, England
