Bonhomme Richard

Bonhomme RichardA Scottish youth named John Paul went to sea at age 13, sailed the Atlantic on merchant and slave ships, and worked his way up to ship’s master. His reputation suffered when he was jailed after flogging a crew member who died as a result; later he killed a mutinous crewman with a sword and, fearing he wouldn’t get a fair trial, fled to Virginia, took the surname Jones, joined the Continental Navy—and became a hero of the American Revolutionary War. Inspired by the penmanship of John Paul Jones (1747–1792), Bonhomme Richard gets its name from his famous frigate, lost during a victorious engagement with the British in the Battle of Flamborough Head. OpenType features include scores of contextual, discretionary, and historical ligatures, alternate alphabets, ink blots, cross-outs, and full Latin support. US$39.
