Geographica

GeographicaGeographica is a legible, four-style serif family modeled after the neat hand-lettered place names and peripheral text on the maps of Thomas Jefferys (ca. 1710–1771), the best-known cartographer in 18th-century England. Jefferys won (and hyped) the title “Geographer to King George III.” but was more an engraver/publisher than a geographer, mostly relying on the materials of others; still, his maps of the North American colonies were well known. Geographica combines a sort of hand-drawn warmth with a distinctly historical flair. Its long serifs and ample x-height will add classic elegance to long blocks of text or display type, whether on paper or screen. OpenType features include small capitals and two stylistic sets of titling caps, along with a slew of unique cartographic ornaments and full Latin support—more than 1,200 glyphs in all. US$99.
