Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar had an exotic name for a historic Texan, but he left his mark beginning in 1836, the year of Texas independence. Lamar went on to become the young republic’s first vice-president (to President Houston) and second presidentand to author a number of interesting letters in his elegant, stylish hand. (Mirabeau B. Lamar grew up a well-to-do southerner from Georgia, and his penmanship shows it.) One of the most interesting aspects of designing old handwriting fonts, to me, is pausing to reflect on the actual moment that the letter-writer is sitting at his or her desk or table, pen in hand, putting thoughts to words150 to 200 years ago. Has a complete character set, and plenty more. US$39.

I'm always on the lookout for handwriting fonts that look more like handwriting than fonts. I've always relied on Texas Hero, Schooner Script, and Emily Austin and was very happy to see Lamar Pen and American Scribe. A.L., Los Angeles CA
Oh! I'm in loooove with [Lamar Pen]! It's lovely, it's organic, it's real, it's got history & tradition. My designs are singing! C.C., Palo Alto CA
The Lamar Pen font is divine. We are using it on a novel set in the eighteenth century, and the author is ecstatic. J.H., London, England
